SLAVES OF THOMAS BLALOCK (1810 - 1843) OF GRANVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
The father of Thomas Blalock, Millington Blalock, died on 7 Oct 1837 intestate. Thomas was administrator of the estate.
On 25 Dec 1838 the commission, appointed to "divide the Negroes belonging to the estate of Millington Blalock decd. amongst the widow and children," made its report, including:
- To Thos. Blalock, Rose, in 1838 valued $375. Also, Tracy & Joe, valued $450 in 1838. (images 1199-1201) [1]
Thomas Blalock died in intestate in October 1843 in Granville, North Carolina, so his wife, Rowan Blalock, became head of household for the time being. (image 1306)[2].
On 1 Dec 1843, an "Inventory of the Negroes and their hire" named George, Harriot and children viz. Joe, Ausber, Haywood & Gin, Rose and child Chery and Trace. (image 1411)[2]
As of 28 Dec 1846, the estate of Thomas Blalock owned 12 people. Their ages and current value were included:

On 26 Dec 1861, a final distribution of the enslaved people of Thomas Blalock, deceased, was reported.
Daughter Mary Thomas Blalock Day, wife of Isaac N. Day, was allotted:
- Rose value $200
- Granderson value $350
- Jacob value $750
- Haywood value $800
- little Isaac value $300.
Son Millington Blalock was allotted:
Daughter Rebecca Blalock Hobgood was not mentioned. (image1262)[2]
Research Notes
The enslaved children, Chery and John, were only mentioned in annual hiring agreements, so they likely died early, ran away or were sold.
