Research Notes

Perry County was founded on November 2nd, 1820. Part of Floyd County was contributed to Perry County.

Breathitt County was formed on February 8th, 1839, part of Perry County was contributed to Breathitt County.

The male slaves listed in the 1830 and 1840 census records may be the same person, possibly born between 1816 and 1820. He would have been between 10 and 14 years of age in 1830, and between 20 and 24 years of age in 1840. Without more information there is no way to tell if this is the case. The person in the 1840 census would have been in their thirties by the 1850 census, so no longer seems to be part of the household.
