In early 1863, Thomas bought 200 acres in McLennan, Texas. Among the enslaved people he brought to Texas were four people born in Virginia: Charlotte, age 29; her daughter Lucia, age 12 (later known as the notable Lucy Parsons); her son Tanner, age 7; and another woman Jane, age 18.
