Copy-pasted in part from Thomas' profile; upon a brief serach I was unable to find the source (Ancestry, FamilySearch)Weatherall-96 02:59, 26 March 2024 (UTC) Thomas's last will was witnessed 18 Nov 1833 and proven in probate court on 6 Oct 1834: " And whereas I have sold all my lands, I desire that after my just debts are paid, that all my negros be hired out and the money arising from their hire to be put at interest and that one hundred dollars be paid to my wife, Elizabeth McClanahan annually for her support during her life. And after the death of my wife, I desire that all my Negroes and their increase be equally divided between my daughter Maria Watkins and the children of my daughter, Margaret Ward, that is to say, one half to Maria Watkins and the other half to the children of Margaret Ward, they having received less land than the rest of my children. I also desire that all the money that may be in hand arising either from the sale of my land or the hire of my Negroes after the death of my wife be equally divided between my daughter, maria Watkins and the children of Margaret Ward with this exception: If my Negro man Sampson and my Negro woman Hannah should be alive at the death of my wife, I desire that they shall not be hired out, but good care taken of them by my daughter, Maria Watkins and the children of my daughter, Margaret Ward, and I do hereby constitute and appoint my son William McClanahan Executor to this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of November, 1833.
