About the Project
The Sloan Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Sloan name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Sloan name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Sloans), by time period (18th Century Sloans), or by topic (Sloan DNA, Sloan Occupations, Sloan Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather Fred Sloan of East Tennessee (deceased, birth and death dates unknown). Fred was married to Fanny Gunnar with whom he had 8 children: Barbara Imogene [Sloan-6639], Frank, Richard, Dorothy, Rosalie, Mary, Betsy, and Hettie. The only dates I'm certain of are the birth and death of daughter Barbara Imogene; 6/27/1941 and 9/20/1989, respectively. Any additional info to add would be greatly appreciated!

You took me back...My cousin Sean Slaon asked me to create this so he would see how it needed to be set up. So I put up an outline for him to insert and do as he wanted to. Unfortunately, he became ill and passed away before he could go anywhere with this.
I am not well versed in the Sloan surname roots or derivatives. Please do start working it as it's just been waiting for someone to come along and pick up where Sean left off. :-)
Add your lines to WikiTree. Once you get back to your earliest know Sloan - you father? then add the Sloan name study to his profile. Once you get some of your information on WikiTree you might find some connections you didn't know about! Welcome, Mags
