My relationships to the U.S. Presidents, according to WikiTree are listed below. Boldface indicates a relationship that I either think is valid or has a reasonably good chance of being valid. Some of these relationship paths are no longer visible due to changes WikiTree made in privacy settings to comply with the GDPR.

  • George Washington - 8th cousins 8 times removed
  • John Adams - double 3rd cousins 7 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are (1) John White and Frances Jackson, immigrant settlers in Watertown and Brookline, Massachusetts, and (2) Samuel Basse and Anne Saville Basse, early settlers in Braintree, Mass. The WikiTree algorithm maps this second relationship as 3rd cousins 8 times removed (through Margaret Thayer Stetson), but the relationship is actually one step closer through Rachel Paine Stetson.
  • Thomas Jefferson - 8th cousin, 7 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are in the 15th century. I haven't evaluated whether this is possibly valid.
  • James Madison - 9th cousins 7 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are in the 15th century. Who knows if this is valid?!?
  • James Monroe - No blood relationship!
  • John Quincy Adams - double fourth cousins 6 times removed, based on the same most recent common ancestors as for his father, John Adams.
  • Andrew Jackson - No blood relationship!!
  • Martin Van Buren - 4th cousins 5 times removed through ancestors in the Van Nes family, 4th cousins 6 times removed through a Van Buren family ancestor, and 3rd cousins 7 times removed through a Van Alsteyn family ancestor.
  • William Henry Harrison - 9th cousins five times removed. Most recent common ancestors are [supposedly] in 15th-century England.
  • John Tyler - 10th cousins four times removed, with most recent common ancestors in the 15th century. Validity to be determined.
  • James K. Polk - No blood relationship!
  • Zachary Taylor - 12th cousins twice removed, with most recent common ancestors in the 15th century. Doubtful...
  • Millard Fillmore - 5th cousins five times removed. Most recent common ancestor is early New England immigrant Thomas Wood.
  • Franklin Pierce - 10th cousins 4 times removed, via some doubtful connections to most recent common ancestors in 15th century England.
  • James Buchanan - 7th cousins 7 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are in 16th century Scotland.
  • Abraham Lincoln - 6th cousins five times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Watertown, Massachusetts, early settlers William Hammond and Elizabeth Paine.
  • Andrew Johnson - No blood relationship!
  • Ulysses S. Grant - 6th cousins four times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Samuel Allen and Anne Whitmore, early settlers at Braintree, Mass.
  • Rutherford B. Hayes - 5th cousins 4 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are George Abbott (a.k.a. "George Abbott Jr.") of Rowley and Andover, Mass., his wife Sarah Farnham Abbott, and Samuel Storrs (settled in Mansfield, Conn.).
  • James Garfield - 6th cousins three times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Thomas Flagg and his wife Mary Underwood, settlers in Watertown, Mass.
  • Chester A. Arthur - 6th cousins five times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Thomas Carter of Woburn, Massachusetts, and Mary (Parkhurst) Carter.
  • Grover Cleveland - 6th cousins five times removed. Most recent common ancestors are supposed to be Lawrence Waters and his wife Anne Linton, settlers in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
  • Benjamin Harrison - 5th cousins four times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Anthony Collamore and Sarah Chittenden of Scituate, Massachusetts.
  • William McKinley - No blood relationship! Formerly showed 19th cousins once removed, with most recent common ancestors are in 13th-century Scotland. Removal of that relationship from WikiTree looks like a sign of progress in improving data quality.
  • Theodore Roosevelt - 5th cousins 3 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Christoffel Yates and his wife Catalyntje Winne.
  • William Howard Taft - 6th cousins 3 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are Zachariah Goodale and his wife Elizabeth Beauchamp of Salem, Massachusetts.
  • Woodrow Wilson - 12th cousin 4 times removed, via long-ago Scotland. This one might be valid.
  • Warren G. Harding - 7th cousins three times removed. Most recent common ancestors are James Morgan (from Wales) and his wife Martha Hills (from England), immigrants to Connecticut before 1640.
  • Calvin Coolidge - 8th cousins, as purported descendants of Edmund Littlefield of Braintree, Mass. Support for that connection is weak. Next closest is 8th cousins once removed via Matthew Pratt and Sarah Hunt of Weymouth, Mass.; that looks stronger.
  • Herbert Hoover - Double 9th cousins, once removed. Most recent common ancestors are two couples who immigrated (or whose families immigrated) to New England in the "Puritan Great Migration": Edward Holyoke and Prudence Stockton of Lynn, Mass., and Thomas Wood and wife Ann of Rowley, Mass.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt - 8th cousins twice removed (on two different lines). Most recent common ancestors are early settlers William Cheney and his wife Margaret Cule of Roxbury, Mass., and Enoch Hunt of Weymouth, Mass.
  • Harry Truman - 14th cousins. Both ancestral paths are marked "uncertain." Most recent common ancestors are in 15th century England.
  • Dwight Eisenhower - No blood relationship!
  • John F. Kennedy - No blood relationship!
  • Lyndon Johnson - 11th cousins twice removed. Most recent common ancestors are Eliot family in Essex, England. Could be valid.
  • Richard Nixon - 10th cousins once removed. Most recent common ancestors are Joseph Morse and Dorothy Barber, immigrant settlers of Ipswich, Massachusetts. I have some serious doubts about some genealogy I see here.
  • Gerald Ford - Double 10th cousins. Most recent common ancestors are Thomas Wood & Ann Hunt, 17th century immigrants to Massachusetts, and Lubbert Gysbertsen Van Blarcom and his wife Divertje Cornelis, 17th century immigrants to New Netherland.
  • Jimmy Carter - 13th cousins. Most recent common ancestors are 16th century English nobility. Carter's line is marked "Uncertain."
  • Ronald Reagan - No blood relationship! (Formerly mapped as 14th cousins once removed. Reagan's line was marked "Uncertain." Apparently other WikiTreers removed some bad data.)
  • George H. W. Bush - 6th cousins twice removed. Most recent common ancestors are Henry Stevens and Elizabeth Fellows of Stonington, Connecticut.
  • Bill Clinton - 10th cousins 3 times removed. Most recent common ancestors are two couples in 16th century England. I suspect errors.
  • George W. Bush - 7th cousins once removed, based on the same relationships as for his father.
  • Barack Obama - 10th cousins once removed. Most recent common ancestors are supposedly Daniel Shed and Mary Gurney, English settlers in early 1600s Massachusetts, very poorly documented in WikiTree. There are some slightly more distant cousin connections through other early Massachusetts settlers.
  • Donald Trump - No blood relationship!
