Starting a project in Sondrio Province
Thanks for you interest in volunteering in the Sondrio Province. The purpose of this section is to maximize your effort thereby helping others and making it possible for others to build on what you have done.
1. Create your place study project:
Check here to make sure it doesn't exist
- From the menu bar Add a New Thing
- Use the naming format Cityname, Lombardy One Place Study
- add the following categories to your one place study
-
-
-
- The first category is a category that will be used to tag people born, living or affiliated with the city you are working on. You can also use this category if you create subcategories for your One Place Study or you have space pages you want to add to you project. You are probably creating this category while you create your Place Study so be sure to come back to it and complete the tasks. Some profiles will have already created this profile bypassing the option to set up a One Place Study.
- The second category I am not sure why we tag it.
- The third category places your place study in the correct province.
- The fourth is a category required by the One Place Study group. It ensures your once place study can be found by that team.
- Create New Project button (we will return to add some other items.)
2. Edit the Cityname, Lombardy category (it should be at the bottom in the categories box of your new project page in red)
- Copy the bracketed statement (including brackets) into the top portion of the category page:
- The wikidataID must be changed to the correct number. You can find this number by going to wikipedia and pulling up the wikipedia page for your commune. In the left column of the wikipedia page, you will see an option for WIKIDATA. Choose that and copy the ID number you will see in the title bar. Optionally you can leave this blank.
- Also change the space page to reflect your space page commune name.
-
3. Go back and edit your one page study page.
- Sondrio province has unindexed birth death and marriage records over at Family Search. Doing a one place study in Sondrio, really should include a path to get these records indexed. The method for doing that is as follows:
Go to this page and find your commune: Sondrio Province
When you click through to your province you will find links to Allegati, Nati Births, Pubblicazioni, Matrimoni Marriages and Morti Deaths.
For each of the birth marriages and death links, create a line in your one page study that looks something like this:
- *Deaths 1866-1910
In the example replace the web address with the corresponding web address of correct link. Replace the Deaths 1866-1910 with the correct title and year span. This is the format a little more clear link title
- Next Steps would be to first index the years of each set of records.
- Using the methods already explained, look at this page for an example:
- Mese Births
- First build the index to each year. (This helps when you know where and when your ancestor was born)
- Then you can copy the names from each year to the index page. (This helps if you just have a name and location)
- Then you can create the individuals contained in the data. (This is the final step - unless you are concentrating on your family. Then add them whenever you like.)
