ACT BDM and Electoral Rolls

Libraries ACT, 'Researching ACT Family History' - helpful page in locating various genealogical sources specific to the ACT.

Prior to the creation of the ACT, vital registrations were recorded with the NSW BDM Registry, and so they can be found in the NSW indexes. Note: These entries usually record 'Queanbeyan' as their district.

Post-Federation, the ACT government (known as the Federal Capital Territory until 1938) began collecting vital record information. The deaths and marriages indexes (starting from 1930) can be found in downloadable spreadsheets under the 'How can I find out about my family history?' section: https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/article/apply-for-a-birth-death-or-marriage-certificate-tab-overview

You can also view public death records through the ACT Historic Death Index 1930+ and public marriage records through the ACT Historic Marriage Index 1930+.
