South Westfield Street Cemetery, Feeding Hills, Massachusetts

Cemetery name: South Westfield Street Cemetery

Address: 173 Rt 187, Feeding Hills, Massachusetts

GPS Coordinates: 42.06128, -72.67626

Small, old cemetery with many unreadable gravestones and memorial stones. Several families interred there, many with names that are significant to Western Mass., possibly related to the persons of significance, or possibly the persons themselves. Some names: Pomeroy, Leonard, White, Van Horn, etc. I took about 74 phtos today, 7-10-08, and got about half the cemetery (the right side as you look from the street). There is a marker nearby (next to the church's driveway), for "Birthplace of Anne Sullivan" and the home to the right of that memorial marker is said to be the actual home where Anne Sullivan was born. The statue of Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller is in the Granger School yard at the corner of South Westfield St and Springfield St. about 1 mile to the North of the cemetery. I hope to record more photos of this cemetery on findagrave and also will post a good photo of the Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller sculpture titled, "Water", this summer, 2009.

This cemetery is listed in Rusty Clark's book, "Stories Carved in Stone- Agawam, MA" as the Old Feeding Hills Cemetery with notes about the inernments there. I believe it also came to be known locally over the years as, "The South Westfield Street Cemetery" because it made it easier to locate that way. Debra L.
