Southern Pioneer's "Pioneer Trails" Initiative

Purpose and Scope

This page is for documenting member information and status tracking of "Pioneer Trail" participation, reviews and approvals.

The "Pioneer Trails" program [1] involves a participating member (known as a "TrailBlazer") in establishing the accuracy and quality of each profile in the "Pioneer Trail" [2] in particular, concentrating on each parent-child relationship in the trail. This is done by "proving" (reliably sourcing) the direct lineal parent-child relationships from descendant to pioneer ancestor. Once each relationship has been "proved" and each profile in the trail has been project reviewed for proper sourcing and documentation the profile is then eligible to receive project approval and recognition not only for it's accuracy but as a way of saying "Thank You" for each participant's outstanding efforts.

Who adds the information to this page? the Project leader, or the member who wants to add their information? I would like my (Thomson-5441) trail to George Mansker-43 added.

David, thanks for your question. This log is used by the Trail Master or Project Leader that is tracking progress on the trail under review. A trail extends from the project member (submitter) to a Southern Pioneer ancestor. The ancestor's direct relationship must be that of (great) grandparent (not a cousin or uncle/aunt). As a part of the process, each profile in the direct line of descent from the Southern Pioneer ancestor to the project member needs to have each direct parent-child relationship established (proved) by supporting documentation and at least one reliable (primary) source that proves each parent-child relationship. The trail from Thompson-5441 to Mansker-43 therefore would not be eligible for review under this program's guidelines. However, it may be that a trail from you to one of the ancestors you listed may qualify for this program. Let me know if you would like for me to take a look at a prospective trail to determine if it would be eligible for submission.

David I just ran a line between you and George Mansker and that line is potentially eligible.

Before it can be reviewed and approved each parent-child relationship listed below will have to be proved.

1. David is the son of [private mother] [confident]
2. [Private] is the daughter of Virginia Rosamond Wyatt [confident]
3. Virginia is the daughter of Goldie Ray (Mansker) Sullens [confident]
4. Goldie is the daughter of Edward Mansker [unknown confidence]
5. Edward is the son of Jacob Lewis Mansker [unknown confidence]
6. Jacob is the son of Lewis Mansker [unknown confidence]
7. Lewis is the son of John Mansker [unknown confidence]
8. John is the son of George Mansker [unknown confidence]

I understand the lines need to be proved. But who is responsible for determining proof? The profiles already contain the evidence available, so does something else need to be provided by the person seeking to be listed?
posted by David Thomson III
For the line you submit (assuming you submit the line from yourself to George Mannsker) you would need to (the guidelines are posted in the tracking log page) provide the documentation and sources needed to prove the relationship from parent to child in each generation. Once you have indicated that has been done then the line will be reviewed by myself or another reviewer. If there is a profile that needs any additional information or better source(s) then you will be contacted by the reviewer. When the line satisfies the listed requirements it can be approved and receive the Pioneer Trial designation.

The entries in the tracking log are made by me or another independent reviewer. Those entries are not modified by the submitting member. When you have a line ready to be reviewed submit it to me and I will enter it into the tracking log. I would suggest the Mansker line but I will be glad to look over an altermative if you have one.

The documentation is included in each of the profiles in the line of succession.

Hello,

I have several ancestors I think might qualify for this. How do I get started? Do I need to have someone approve a Southern Pioneer candidate before I work on a trail to them? Do I pick one and jump in on this tracking log? If someone can get in touch with me about this, I would deeply appreciate it.

Thank you,

Sarah (Mason-10934)

Hi Sarah.

Did someone follow up with you on this ? Sorry if we missed you. Just let me know which pioneer ancestor you want to begin your trail with and I will take a look.
