About the Project
The Spratling Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Spratling name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Spratling name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Spratling's), by time period (18th Century Spratling's), or by topic (Spratling DNA, Spratling Occupations, Spratling Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Use of Spratling One Name Study Template
Individual profiles are added to this One Name Study with the One Name Study template:
- {{One Name Study|name=Spratling}}
Please ONLY add this template to profiles of individuals meeting these two (2) criteria:
- Their surname is one of the listed variants; and
- They meet one of these three (3) criteria:
- Their lineage is unknown, requiring further research; or
- A wife's married surname is one of the listed variants, and their husband is unknown; or
- They changed their surname or the spelling of their surname from that used by their Spratling parent.
What does this mean?
- Ignore surname variants that are merely typos.
- Surname variants should be supported by use in more than one primary record.
- Do NOT include known children of Spratlings with the same surname variant, so that we can focus our research.
Please contact the Spratling ONS Coordinator to propose the addition of a surname variant based on primary records.
