The Stairfoot rail accident was a railway accident that took place at Stairfoot, West Riding of Yorkshire, England on 2 December 1870 when a run away good train waggons ran into a stationary passenger train at Stairfoot Station, near Barnsley Yorkshire. An inquest was held at the Black Bull, Ardsley, Yorkshire on 13 December 1870 and continued the next day at Barnsley Court House. The verdict was manslaughter against John Heathershaw.
