About the Project

  • This ONS is up for grabs if you'd like to be manager

The Stanley Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Stanley name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Stanley name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Stanleys), by time period (18th Century Stanleys), or by topic (Stanley DNA, Stanley Occupations, Stanley Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Hi Keith!

Thank you for adding categories and badges to my Stanley ancestors. I have quite a big branch in the Takely/Dunmow area of Essex so I'm sure I will be slowly adding many many more. I'll try to remember to add the category and badges as I do. Years ago I came across a distant relative who had done an extensive study of the Essex Stanleys and shared that information with me. I'll have to have a look and see if I can dig that out and contact him to see if he is happy with me sharing that info with you!

Kerry, you're welcome and thank you. The Essex Stanley info would be great, if your distant relative approves.

In the meantime feel free to join the Stanley Name Study and adding the ONS Stanley Sticker to your profiles would be much appreciated.

Take care!
