Background
These research notes are part of an "Adey Name Study", and were initiated after adopting an orphaned profile of William Adey (1788-1874), who was born in Sopley, Hampshire, England. His biography indicated that he had emigrated to Newfoundland, and died there in Hant's Harbour. There seem to have been a large number of ADEYs in Newfoundland, and indeed there is (or was) a place named Adeytown/Adeyton. This is of great interest to myself, as someone researching both one name and one place studies.
Research Notes
Examination of the biography for William Adey revealed that there were only two sources given. They both are effectively family trees, so they will need special assessment:
- WillOfJehovah.com [1] is a Morman website for Ward Green, that appears to try and establish his descent from Adam. It will be analysed on the ADEY research notes, Hampshire England WikiTree page.
- TurnbullClan.net[2] is a more modern style website for Brian and Gail Turnbull's family tree, that was created using John Cardinal's GedSite version 4.02.
Both sites seem to be chiefly concerned with the members of the Adey Family who were part of the Newfoundland Colony and their ancestors in pre-colonial days. The source link for William Adey [i1368][3] from WikiTree into the Turnbull.net website is broken. However, it uses well documented sources on the Newfoundland Grand Banks (NGB) historical and genealogical data website[4]. The following uses an analysis of the Turnbull site to reconstruct the index and identify the missing data. This will help to determine which of the ADEY profiles remain valid and their corresponding WikiTree IDs.
Analysis of ADEYs on Turnbull website index
The Turnbull website documents the families of multiple individuals on the same page, so it uses #iNNNN to access individual's family. All Person Pages on the site have URL references of the form: "http://turnbullclan.net/Brian_GedSite-o/g1/pNN.htm". The pages start with individuals i0001 to i0050 on p1.htm, up to a likely maximum of perhaps individuals i9951 to i9999 on p200. Person Pages thus hold details of up to 50 persons (with their immediate family of parents, children and spouses), in individual accession number order. Therefore, using the i-number (#iNNNN), it can be predicted on which page the person's family details will be stored. A Google search indicates that the following pages contain references to the surname ADEY (or in one case as a middle name), in any individual's family details:

- Anecdote Rachel Adey was, in some ways, in strong contrast to Samuel Ellis. She was strong-willed and determined and never too shy to speak her mind. Her strength of character was relied upon not only within her own family, but extended to her community as well. As midwife, she was responsible for bringing into the world most of the new members of the Hant's Harbour and Caplin Cove communities.
