Wing Commander Claude A Ridley Born at Mere Knolls House, Sunderland. As a 2nd Lieutenant Royal Fusiliers, he was attached to the Royal Flying Corps in 1915 as a pilot. He was awarded the Military Cross for action against Zeppelin raids & the Distinguished Service Order for conspicuous gallantry and resource in the execution of a special mission behind enemy lines.
