Sutton, Cambridgeshire

Sutton, also known as Sutton-in-the-Isle, is a village and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, near the city of Ely. (See Wikipedia: Sutton-in-the-Isle.)

Before 1837, Sutton was in the Liberty of the Isle of Ely, an area administrated by the Bishop of Ely.

1837-1889 Sutton was in Cambridgeshire

1889-1965 Sutton was in the Isle of Ely

1965 -1974 Sutton was in Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely

From 1837 until at least 1974, Sutton was in the Ely registration district.

From 1974 Sutton has been under the administration of the East Cambridgeshire district council.

It is not to be confused with Sutton, a very small civil parish near Peterborough that was formerly in Northamptonshire and is now part of Cambridgeshire.
