If no degrees are shown add words - no degrees recorded.

Add any other information that appears on the record.

Process

  1. Check to see if there is an existing profile on Wikitree. If the profile exists and the category and education details are on the profile - no further action needed. If the Profile exists and category and education details are missing, add the category and education details. Be respectful of the biography of the profile when adding education details.
  2. If the profile does not exist add a profile to Wikitree. The minimum requirement is category and education details, plus father and his occupation, if that information is on the record. Add any other information on the record that is relevant.
  3. Add Calculated Birth year from date and age at entrance and Birthplace if shown on record, otherwise use Ireland as place.
  4. If you are able to attach the profile to a family that would be great, but it's not a requirement for this project.
  5. If you wish to add any other biographical information, while greatly adding to Wikitree, it is not a requirement for this project.

Notes

Age at entry - With regard to the student's age, it has been found, particularly in the early Registers, to be sometimes overstated. There was a tendency to give the age next Birthday which was perhaps in accordance with "Annum Agens," 'as the column for these particulars was headed. Is it possible that our ancestors computed the ages of their sons as we do those of our horses, and described the undergraduate as ":ising sixteen"?. However it gives an approximate date. mark as 'uncertain'
List of Professions - The father's occupation is in Latin, this Ulster Historical Foundation - List of Professions gives the translations. Most common - Armiger - Esquire, Esq., Generosus - Gentleman, Gent, Clericus - Clergyman, Ludimagister - Schoolmaster, Mercator - Merchant, Miles - Soldier, Pragmaticus - Solicitor
Ignore the words - Hiem, Vern, AEst. They don't refer to the subjects of the degree, but refer to the seasons of the graduation. Vern = Verna (Spring), AEst = Aestiva (Summer) and Hiem = Hiemps (Winter).
Ignore the words - Siz and Pen, unless you wish to add them to the biography. Most students entered college as Pensioners. In other words, they paid a fixed sum annually. The other two categories were: Sizar and Fellow Commoners (Socii Comitates). Sizars were "allowed free education in consideration of performing certain, at one time menial, duties"; Fellow Commoners paid double fees and enjoyed several privileges, including that of finishing the College course in three years instead of four.
NFP means No Further Particulars. That is all the information the alumni records holds, no other details are on the register.
defunctus indicates that the father was deceased before the student entered TCD.
ad.eund. Camb. also studied at Cambridge University. Refer to Cambridge Alumni Register for possible biography.
Profile Manager There's no need to remain the Profile manager, the profiles can be 'orphaned'.
