If the name of the reference has no spaces (e.g. all_spaces_are_escaped_with_underscores) it is still valid.

Quote characters which work:

• 'single, striaght: ' …'
• double, straight: "…"
• single, curly, paired: ‘…’
• single, curly, both left: ‘ …‘
• single, curly, both right: ’…’
• double, curly, paired: “…”
• double, curly, both left: “…“
• double, curly, both right: ”…”

Quote characters which DO NOT work:

• angular (French) quotes, paired: « … »
• ... and any other combination of these characters.
