The Texas Historical Commission is an agency dedicated to historic preservation within the state of Texas.[1]

One of their many projects involves registering historical cemeteries. When a cemetery has been designated historical, a plaque is commissioned and erected at the site. Currently there are 2249 historic Texas cemeteries in 253 counties across the state.[2]
