The 1855 voyage of the 1106 ton Constance.

There is an 1854 advertisement describing the 1106 ton Constance as a "fast new clipper ship", captained by William Christian. Christian and Kilgour don't appear in records for the Adelaide bound ship. That one is all Captain John Bulwer Godfrey and Captain D. Smith.

For strength, beauty of model, and general finish, the Constance has not been surpassed by any ship that has sailed hence for the Colonies. She was built by Messrs. W. and R. Wright, of St. John's, for Mr. James Beazley, and is commanded by Captain M. M. Milward.
The Wrights of St. John were two Scots brothers, who began a shipbuilding business about 1838 after working for some time under George Thompson. Built in Newfoundland their vessels were sold in Liverpool. This led to them becoming involved in the shipping business up until Richard died in 1872, whereafter the business went into decline. The Constance was one of Henry Thomas's "Black Star" line of Australian packet ships.
