The list of Acadians below, with links to their WikiTree profiles, is based on Paul Delaney's article The Acadians Deported from Chignectou to "Les Carolines" in 1755: Their Origins, Identities an Subsequent Movements, in which he identified the passengers on ship lists, their respective families, and their locations of exile. [1]

For the dates of arrival of the ships in South Carolina, Paul Delaney followed Albert N. Lafrenière, "The Acadian Deportation Ships," which may be consulted at http://acadian-home.org/deport-ships-table.html [2]

Men possibly on the Syren, who probably died

Note by Paul Delaney p. 341: There is no way of determining for certain who else was on the Syren, but, like all the others who have been identified, they were almost certainly from the villages of Chipoudie, Petcoudiac or Memramcook, and very probably closely related to some of them. The following five men disappear after the 1754-1755 census, and fulfil the above two criteria. They might, however, include one or both of the men who died in Rochefort.

Hello!

Thank you so much for this page! I am hoping to add a name to the list for passengers on "The Syren", which had 21 men aboard. This page is very helpful and comes up often when looking for information, but on this page, there are only 20 men named on the list for the ship Syren.

Sources indicate that there were 21 men aboard:

"27. Category: Syren Sailed 13 October 1755, Ship, Charles Proby, Master, Arrived in Charleston, South Carolina with 21 Men, 0 Women, 0 Children. 21 persons total on 17 November 1755. [30]"

(https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Worksheet_for_Acadian_Deportation_Ships_Categories#_note-28) OR ( http://acadian-home.org/deport-ships-table.html )

The unnamed 21st person aboard the Syren was: Ambroise Breau Ambroise Breau Profile: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Breau-54

The findings on his death are verified by Stephen White, and place him aboard the Syren in the company of Joseph Leblanc at his death.

Thank you very much for sharing this information, Matthew. It makes sense that he was one of the men aboard the Syren since he was in Chipoudie in 1755, and disappears from censuses after that date. I added two Unknown men who were deported to England and died in Rochefort that appear in Delaney's book, but that I had not added to this list, and put a note that Ambroise could be one of them. Let me know if anything else needs editing. Glad that you find this page useful.
