Outline

The Ratcliff Allens - a Saga is an unpublished typewritten account of the Allen family of Ratcliff, near Wapping in London. Part 1 quotes extensively from the 1777 diary of John Allen (later published as Leaves from the Past) together with a pamphlet written by Margaret (Stafford) Allen, the wife of Job Allen and mother of William Allen (1770-1843) the philanthropist and abolitionist. Part 2 covers the related family of Marsh, the Great Fire of Ratcliffe of 1794, and further details of the Allen family. The final section is a collection of letters from Hannah Allen to her cousin Priscilla (Allen) Knight written between 1811 and 1818.
