Interesting Finds
- List interesting finds to share with the guest at the end of the week
- George Edward Taylor (1856-1927) was listed in census records as a commercial painter. His sons George and James were also painters.
- Mary Knowles (1853-) occupation was cotton Tenter which is defined as "Someone who, after cloth was dyed, stretched it on a frame, called a "Tent" for drying . This frame was fitted with hooks known as "Tenterhooks" - about which we all know! 2) The term was also used for a person who looked after or watched something. .i.e. Tip tenter - person inspecting finished shuttle tips after manufacture. (Tenter - from Tender, to tend)"
- Maureen is a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger, Stephen Hopkins. The line is through her 3rd great grandmother, Sabrina Chapman.
- As of 16 Nov 2021, she has 64 ancestors who are members of the Filles du Roi within 12 generations. See Ancestor Explorer app for details.
- Through her Messier ancestors, Maureen is a descendant of a number of early seigneurs, including Michel Messier de St-Michel (abt.1642-1725), Nicolas Marsolet (1601-1677), and Mathieu Amyot de Villeneuve (abt.1628-1688). Marsolet is particularly interesting, as he was an interpreter who was among the first to arrive at the settlement in Québec, in about the year 1613.
- Saint André of Montreal is first cousin, four times removed from Maureen. More distant but perhaps more surprising, Maureen and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are 8th cousins. Their most recent common ancestors are Joseph Guyon (1682-1754) and Élisabeth Guillet (abt.1694-abt.1783)
- Maureen is a descendant of Guillaume Couillard (1588-1663), who was one of the first to arrive at the settlement in Québec. Like fellow ancestor Nicolas Marsolet (1601-1677), Couillard opted to remain in Québec during its years of occupation by the English (1629-1632)
