The Will of Mark Pike of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, Carpenter, written on 2 January 1801, passed probate on 16 October 1805.[1]

In the Name of God Amen
[Mark Pike (in left margin)] of Trowbridge in the County of Wilts Carpenter do
make publish and declare this my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following and first I Give
Devise and Bequeath unto Sarah Snelling one of the
Daughters of my Brother Thomas Pike the Sum of Five
pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid as
soon as conveniently can after my decease and to
each of the Children on her body lawfully begotten the
Sum of One Guinea each of like lawful Money to also
be paid as soon as conveniently can after my said
decease and also I Give devise and bequeath unto
George Pike Son of my late Brother Thomas Pike the
like Sum of Five pounds of like lawful Money to be
also paid as soon as conveniently can be after my
Said decease and to each of the Children of his body
lawfully begotten the Sum of One Guinea each od like
lawful Money to be pais as soon as conveniently
can after my said decease also I Give Devise and
bequeath unto Amelia Martin one other of the
Daughters of my said Brother Thomas Pike Five
pounds of like lawful Money of Great Britain and
to each of the Children of the said Amelia Martin on
her body lawfully begotten the Sum of One Guinea
each also to be paid as soon as conveniently can after
my said decease and also I give devise and bequeath

unto James Pike the Sum of Five Pounds Five
Shillings and my will is that my Executors herein
after named do deduct the Sum of Two pounds one
Shilling out of the said Sum of Five pounds five
Shillings for Money paid ^[in left margin] as soon as conveniently
^[in left margin] and advance[?] [?] for the said Thomas Pike be paid^
can after my said decease and to each of the children
of the said Thomas Pike the sum of One Guinea
each also to be paid as soon as conveniently can
after my said decease and also I Give devise and
bequeath unto Mary Cook one other of the Daughters
of my late Brother Thomas Pike the Sum of Five
Pounds of like lawful Money and to each of the
Children on her body lawfully begotten the Sum of
one Guinea each also to be paid as soon as
conveniently can after my said decease and also
Give devise and bequeath unto my Brother Moses
Pike the Sum of Five pounds and which Sum of
Five pounds will appear on my Books against him
which is the Sum of Five Pounds I intend to give
him in this my Will and also I Give devise and
bequeath unto Betty Fatt the Sum of Five Pounds
and to each of the Children of the said Betty Fatt
on her body lawfully begotten the Sum of one
Guinea each of like lawful Money to be paid as
soon as Conveniently can after my said decease also
I Give devise and bequeath unto Sarah Drewett
the Sum of Five Pounds and to each of the
Children on her body lawfully begotten the Sum of
One Guinea each and also I Give devise and bequeath
unto Moses Pike Son of my Brother Moses Pike
the Sum of Five Pounds and also I Give Devise
and bequeath unto Betty Millard the Sum of Ten
Pounds (Daughter of my late Brother William
Pike) and to her Daughter the Sum of Five Pounds
and also I Give devise and bequeath unto Betty
Drewett the Sum of Five Pounds and to each of the
Children ^of her body lawfully begotten the Sum of One
Guinea each which said last and respective Sums I
desire may be paid as soon as Conveniently can
after my said decease and also I Give devise and
bequeath unto Sarah Mathews a Tenement or
Dwelling house situate in a place called the Brick
Plots in Trowbridge aforesaid and late in the
occupation of William Sc[u?]tt for and during and unto
the full end and term of her natural life and
immediately from and after her decease I Give and
devise the same to be equally divided between Sarah
Bendy Mary Bendy and Elizabeth Bendy as Tenants in
common and also I Give Devise and bequeath unto

each and every of the Children of my late Sister
Mary Drewett the Sum of Five Pounds of like lawful
Money to be equally divided amongst them except
Sarah Mathews a house being given her for her
life in [lieu?] thereof ) and also I Give Devise and
bequeath unto the four Daughters of my late
Brother George Pike the [tithe?] Estate situated in a
place called lower Cricklett as Tenants in common and
also I Give Devise and bequeath unto Ann Kingman
the Debt that stands in my Book against her
husband George Kingman and also I Give devise and
bequeath unto William Hurlett the Sum of Five
pounds of like lawful Money also to be paid as soon
as conveniently can after my said decease And also
I give and devise and bequeath unto James Bendy
the Sum of Five pounds of like lawful Money to be
paid as soon as conveniently can after my said
decease and also I Give Devise and bequeath unto
Thomas Pike the house at Islington within the said
Parish of Trowbridge where I now reside and his
heirs for ever and all the rest residue and remainder
of my Real and personal Estates and Estates together
with all Sums of Money due to me on Bonds
Mortgages and other Debts whatsoever I do Give
devise and bequeath unto John Bendy after he has
paid all my Debts Legacies and Funeral Expences therein
contained and his heirs for ever and I do hereby
nominate constitute and appoint the said John
Bendy sole Executor of this my last Will and
testament dated this second day of January in the
fortieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the third and in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and one containing three
sheets of paper to the two first whereof I have set
my hand and the last thereof my hand and seal

[Codicil 1] I Mark Pike of Trowbridge aforesaid do
make this codicil to this my Will (that is to say) I
do Give and bequeath and devise unto the aforesaid
Sarah Bendy Mary Bendy and Elizabeth Bendy my
other Tenements situated in the Brick plots in
Trowbridge aforesaid and now in the occupation of
William Moon and John Powell as tenants in

common and my Will is that my Executor above
named do [receive?] the Rents and Profits of the
said premises and apply it to the use of the said
Sarah Bendy Mary Bendy and Elisabeth Bendy
till such time as they do come of age and also I
Give and bequeath unto the three Children of my
late Sister Sarah Howell my Tool Chest now in the
possession of William Howell with its contents to be
equally divided amongst them share and share
alike And also I Give and bequeath Five Pounds
to be equally divided between George White and
Thirsay White Dated this seventeenth day of

the Sum of Six Shillings and to William Fisher

Money of Great Britain = Mark Pike in Witness

[Probate] On the Sixteenth day of October in the year
pf our Lord One thousand eight hundred and five
adm[inistrat]on / with the Will and two Codicils annexed of
all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of
Mark Pike late of Trowbridge in the County of
Wilts deceased was granted to Moses Pike the
natural and lawful Brother and one of the next of
kin of the said deceased having been first sworn
by Commission duly to administer John Bendy the
nephew of the said deceased Sole Executor and
Residuary Legatee named in the said Will dying in
the life time of the said Testator./-
