Woodall's Native American Blood-Lines
The goal of this project is to show the Woodall connections to their Native American ancestors. These four groups of Woodall have ties to Native America. Please Note: This is being written and updated at this time
Family Group 3 William W. Woodall
William Wagner Woodall, who married Mamie Smith, was a Q-M3 Native American, which means that his actual father was a Native American, thus the Family 3 designation. William would have been 13 at the start of the removal, the 1831–1850 "Trail of Tears". He is listed as the son of James Woodall (1765-1844) and his wife Rebecca (Watson) Woodall (1783-abt.1818), they married on 13 May 1801 in Marion (needs source), Georgia. James is the son of John Woodall (son of Progenitor John Woodall wife Judith Sampson) who married Dorothy Pledge. William W Woodall's birthdate is listed as 5 Jun 1818 on his tombstone, (reads William M. Woodall another mystery) and William is born 2 months after his adopted brother James M. Woodall (1818-1896) born 11 Apr 1818 on his tombstone. With William having such a precise birth date, and place of birth so close to his adopted brother, it seems that the Woodalls could have known William's father's family. Further investigation may open the way for answers. Also of note: Rebecca Watson, James's wife, passed away in the year 1818: the year both James Jr and William were born
Researcher's Note
At this time and between these two Families, I am going to make a few writer statements. Progenitor John Woodall who married Judith Sampson had a son John Woodall who married Dorothy Pledge. This is about where the Poindexter Indian Claims are (give lee-way - I haven't finished studying) and it is his son, James Woodall, that took in William W. Woodall, the Native American boy at the time of the Trail of Tears. As I stated in William W Woodall's write up, we have and know a precise birth date and location. This, even two months after his (adopted) brother's birthdate (both written on tombstone) leads to the belief that James Woodall was associated somehow with William W. Woodall's Native American father. This again is at the time of the Poindexter Indian investagations. I will make more sense on this later.
Family 4B John married Judith Sampson
- The children of the John Woodall who married Judith Sampson ended up in the Poindexter Indian Claim. This claim is that they were the descendants of Chief Donohoo. It was said there was probably a Native American in the family a couple of generations back. The claims of Chief Donohoo being Cherokee could not be proven though. Click on his above for more information.
Family 4A John Woodall m. Lincy Harvey
For the John Woodall that married Lincy Harvey, there are a couple of articles and a testimonial to the fact that they have somehow acquired a native bloodline. Highly unlikely that this John is the son of Cornstalk, who Ancestry propagates this line to. This John is from Family Group 4 so the possibility is non-existent. However, others claim that the two Vest sisters that John and Zephaniah married were ½ native. These different versions and other claims will be listed below eventually: Click on his above for more information.
Family 6 John Wooddall married Isabel Unknown and Judith Holmes
The John Woodall who married Elizabeth Unknown and Judith Holmes had at least two sons that married Native women: Thomas, who married Nannie Tadpole and Varches Nally, and George, who married Eli Moore.
