The Dunbar was a ship in Duncan Dunbar's fleet. One of the multiple clippers named after his family members, it left Plymouth for its second voyage to Australia with 122 passengers. As it approached Sydney on the 20th of August, 1857, heavy rains caused the captain, James Green, to lose any sight of the port. Thinking a gap between the rocks was the entry to the harbour, he called for the crew to direct the ship towards this area. However, the ship hit the rocks and broke apart, with only one passenger surviving. [1]
