History

The Thomas Plantation or Thomas Crossroads Plantation in Laurens County Georgia was owned by John Thomas until his death. Afterward it was sold to Governor George Michael McIntosh Troup (1780-1856).

It was one of at least five plantations operated by the former Governor of Georgia. The others being Lower Turkey Creek (Vallambrosa), Valdosta, Rosemont, Horse Shoe, and the Mitchell Place.

Slaves Owned by Gov. George M Troup

The slaves listed on the probate inventory of the Thomas Plantation at the death of Gov. George M Troup are in the following table. Slaves were listed without ages, with the exception of one infant, only a 'm' or 'f' to denote gender. The inventory took place in June of 1856.[1]

Distribution

Slaves from this plantation were inherited by the estates of the daughter, Florida, and son, George Jr. Both of whom were dead before their father's estate was distributed.
