Hire of Slaves
In 1838, Thomas Fletcher hired out two of his slaves, Cassy and Sarah, to George Parker. George Parker owed Thomas $5000. George was to free Cassy and Sarah when they reached the age of 21 years.[2]
Tax Records
Thomas Fletcher first appeared in the Union County, Kentucky tax lists in 1812.[3]
- 1812: Thomas Fletcher owned a 200 and a 59 acres lot of land, 2 slaves over age 16 and 2 slaves under age 16.
- 1815: Thomas Fletcher owned a 219 and a 100 acre lot of land, 2 slaves over age 16 and 3 slaves under age 16.
- 1818: Thomas Fletcher owned 200, 119, 100, 180, and 69 acre lots of land, 2 slaves over age 16 and 3 slaves under age 16.
- 1819: Thomas Fletcher owned a 130, 59, 69 and 100 acre lot of land, 3 slaves over age 16 and 3 slaves under age 16.
Will
Thomas Fletcher wrote his will in 1826 in which her freed all of his slaves and gave the four oldest slaves his land and personal property. Thomas died about June or July 1838.[4]
Court Orders (Emancipation Record)
The emancipation of Thomas Fletcher's slaves was recorded in the Union County Court on July, 16, 1838. It listed the names, ages and physical description of the slaves.[5]
- "Upon the production and proof of the will and testament of Thomas Fletcher deceased the Court caused the slaves emancipated by the will to come before the Court and upon the view of them the court ordered the clerk to enter upon the order book the following description of said emancipated slaves Towit;"
- "Nancy about Forty Six years of age. Black. Blind in her right about Five feet Six inches high."

1840 Land Sale
Nancy, Stephen, Leah & Catherine sold the 514 acres of land on Eagle creek for $4000 they inherited from Thomas Fletcher.[6]

- George Parker owed Thomas $5000. Thomas hired Cassa, daughter of Lear, born in February 1827 and Sarah, daughter of Nancy born December 1828 until they reached the age of 21. At that time, they were to be emancipated.
