Thomas Jacobs Family
Notes
This page is intended to document the Thomas Jacobs family — including Thomas Jacobs and his children — and the family's migration in the early 1800s from Virginia to Madison County, Kentucky, to Missouri.
The children of Thomas Jacobs included: Thomas Jacobs, Jr., Maurice Jacobs, Stephen Jacobs, Baylor Jacobs, Lewis Jacobs, Joel Jacobs, Henry Jacobs and Nancy Jacobs (wife of Lemuel Boone). All children of Thomas Jacobs migrated westward, except for Thomas Jacobs, Jr., who remained in Virginia.
The origin of Thomas Jacobs is unknown. The mother(s) of his children is also unknown. Later census records (see below) indicate that two of his children were born in Virginia, circa 1790 and 1793, so he was presumably living in Virginia at that time.
The earliest record clearly connected to his family is the 1806 marriage record of his son Thomas in Frederick County, Virginia (see below).
The Wife of Thomas Jacobs Is Unknown
There is a marriage record of a Thomas Jacobs and Sarah English in 1790 in Madison County, Kentucky. This is a different Thomas Jacobs, whose children moved to Arkansas; among their descendants the name "English" was sometimes used as a first or middle name.
There is a will written in 1774 and probated in 1776 in Fairfax County, Virginia, of a Thomas Ford whose daughter Sarah Ford was wife of Thomas Jacobs. This seems to be a different Thomas Jacobs belonging to another family.
Thomas Jacobs, Jr., 1806 Marriage Record
