Purpose
The purpose of this page is to provide helpful hints and tips regarding categories and subcategories on profiles specifically for the Towns Name Study.
Categories
Using categories can be complicated. If you have any questions or need help adding categories to profiles, contact the Study Coordinator for assistance. (See also One Name Studies, Categorization.)
- See the list of the currently active subcategories here.
Copy/paste categories above the Biography section on the profiles.
Use of the Main Towns Name Study Category on profiles

Criteria for adding the One Name Study Sticker or Template to Towns surname profiles
- One Name Stickers should only be used on profiles that do not have biological parents listed or if they are not known. This will be the "Main Focus" of the Towns Name Study.
- 1. Determine if the profile has ancestors (biological parents). Research may be required thru FamilySearch, FindaGrave, etc.
- 2. If the Towns ancestor is unknown, add the One Name Study Sticker to the profile.
- To add profiles to this study according to this criteria, copy/paste the following template above the Biography section of the profile:
- {{One Name Study|name=Towns|category=Towns Name Study}}
- Once the profile has been connected to its parent or ancestor, remove this Sticker from the profile.
- 3. If the Towns person is Adopted (not a member of their biological family), see the Adoptions section below for more information.
