Will of Robert Bransby of Great Yarmouth

In the Name of God Amen I Robert Bransby of Great Yarmouth in the County of Norffolk Esq being in reasonable good health of body blessed be God and of sound and perfect memory..... consideringw ith my selfe the uncertainity of this transitory life and that not man knowes how soone and suddenly he maye be taken away by death doe therefore make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme following principally I commend my soule in to the hands of Almighty God my maker faithfully believing through his merrits and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have remission of all my sinns and to be made a partaker of his heavenly Kingdom my body I comitt to the earth to be decently buried in the chancell of the parish church of GReat Yarmouth in the County afore said neare to my late brother Thomas Branby Esq deceased and of my temporall estate as well reall and perrsonal. I thus dispose as followeth Imprimus my will and mind is that all and every of just debts and dues which shall be by me owing to any person or persons at the time of my decease shall be paid an discharged with all convenient expedition Item I ive will and devise unto my deare neece Elizabeth Astley wife of my Executor hereinafter named two hundred pounds to be paid to her owne selfe and imployed to her owne use allot I give her my diamond ring worth five and twenty pounds to keepe in remembrance of me Item I give unto my neece and God daughter Mistress Mary LOng one thousand pounds to be paid her at one and twenty years or day of marriage which first happen I alott give her a faire diamond ring ..... in favrett fashion which have been valued and worth five an twenty pounds Item I give unto my said neede Mistress Mary Long as much plate as amount to fifty poundsa nd all my household linnen which I shall be possessed of at my decease Item I give unto my couzen MIstress Tabitha Kettle the sum of five hundred pounds to be paid her or her assignes within six months after my decease which I meane to be paid her above all monies that I am indebted to her in Item I give unto my loving couzen Mr Robert Bransby of Shotisham the sume of three hundred pounds to be paid him or his assignes within six months after my decease Item I give unto Mistress Martha Gibson? the wife of John Gibson clerke the whole benefit of the house and land now in the possession of John Cork and one Tunn? which was mortgaged or surrendered to me by Richard .......... for security of one hundred and twenty pounds lying in Caster nigh Yarmouth aforsaid which was forfeited and the said JOhn Gibson thereupon admitted in trust for me that is to say my meaning is that I will that the interest of those money due on the said martgage if the same be redeemed or thereofs untill the same be redeemed shall be to her the said Martha during her life and paid to her owne use and after her death then th whole benefit of the said mortgage and all my right and interest to the said house and land I give to Elizabeth Gibson daughter of the said John and Martha. Item I give unti Robert Bransby my Godson son of John Bransby late of LOndon haberdasher dedd the summe of one hundred pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease. Item I give unto Elizabeth Doughty my God faughter daughter of Capt Robt. Doughty of Oby in the County of Norffolk one hunfred pound to be paid her within twelve months after my decease.Item I give unto Phillip Kettle of London one hundred pounds which I will shall be paid him upon his rendring a just account unto my executor of such rents and other monies that he has rendered or shall res.... for me which I question not but he will faithfully performe Item I give unto Cuthbert Martin of |London fifty pounds upon his rendring my executor a true account and yeilding up my goods and merchandises .....his custody and upon the payment of all such monies as he have recd upon sale of any of my goods and this to be done without trouble or charge to my executor otherwise the devise to him to be voyd Item I give the sum of fifty pounds to be equally distributed amongst my meniall servants that shall be living with me at the time of my decease in my outdwelling house only and not elsewhere Item I give to my couzen ffancis Bransby brother of my couzen Robert Bransby of Shotisham fifty pounds to be paid to him or his assignes within twelve months after my decease Item I give unto Mr Benjamin Pepys of London five ad twenty pounds to be paid alsoe within twelve months after my decease to him or his assignes Item I give unto my cousin Robert Bransby Junior of Auby in the County of Suff the sume of five and twenty pounds Item I give unto Elizabeth Bransby of Harleston the sume of twenty pounds to buy her some plate both these last legacies to be paid unto the said legatees or their assignes within two months after my decease Item I doe release Mr Charles Pepys the sume of fifty pounds with waht interest shall be due for the same which sume he stands indebted to me by bond and I doe desire my executor may deliver him out the said bond Item I doe give unto the persons following for mourning to wear in remembrance of me (viz) unto my executor hereinafter named and his wife the sume of fifty pounds to ...... Mistress Mary Long ten pounds to my couzen Mr Robert Bransby of London ten pounds to my couzin Mr Robert Bransby of shotisham ten pounds to my couzen Cristopher Crowe of Bilney in the said] County of Norff Esq ten pound to my couzen Mistress Tabitha Kettle ten pounds to my couzen Mistress Mary Crowe of ..... snd to her sonne Roger together fifteen pounds to my couzen Mr John Gibson Clerke five pounds and to the said Martha the wife five pounds and to Mistress Hester Crowe? of London widdow five pounds all which legacies for mourning doe amount to one hundred and thirtie pounds which I will shall be immediately paid Item I give to the poore of the towne of Great Yarmouth ten pounds and to the poore of Caistor nigh Yarmouth five pounds to be distributed at the discretion of my executor to the most meritous? persons in the said townesthose Item my meaning is that the legacies herein before bequsted wherein not time of payment mentioned maybe paid presently after my decease Item I does give unto my executor hereafter named for and during the terme of his naturall life and the life of my neece Elizabeth Astley his wife all those ten messuages............. or houses situate and being in the parish of St Anne Blackfriars in the Citty of London which were lately rebuilt by me since the great fire at London (Anno) 1666 together with the lofts and parcells of the ground which lett unto |John Arnold Esq and Mr Edmund Anthony by leases and rebuilt by them or their assignes and now or late in the tenure of Mr Richling? Mrs Sanbrooke and other of their subtenants and from and after the decease of my executor (in margin the issue of the body of my said executor or the body of my said niece begotten or to be begotten for want of such issue then I give the same unto) and his said wife my intent then I give the same to my said couzen Robert Bransby of Shotisham aforeaid and his heires forever lastly I doe ordaine and make ny truly and wellbeloved nephew Phillip Astley of Heatton in the County of Norf aforesaid Esq the sole executor of this my last will and testament not doubting of his integrity and faithfully in the true performance thereof unto whom |I doe give all my other estate whatsoever as well reall and personall for the payments of my debts funerall charges and legacies which said legacies as they are herein before bequeathed I will shall be paid at the severall dayes and times of payment aforesaid to the severall persons to whom the same is given as aforesaid as the same sume due at or within my now dwelling house at Great Yarmouth aforesaid and I doe hereby revoke all other wills by me formerly made and I doe declare that this will only shall stand and be my last will and I doe leave the mannor of the solemnization of my funerall to the discretion of my said executor Item before I conclude this my last will my true intent and mreaning is and I doe notwithstanding any thing herein before constytuted and devised give and bequeath to my God daughter Elizabeth Bransby daughter of my couzen Robert Bransby of Shotisham the sume of two hundred pounds to be paid by my said executor within six months after my decease at the place of payment aforesaid Item I give unto my loving friend Cast. Robins of Great Yarmouth my pleasure boate with sayles and ores and all things thereto appertayning Item I give and bequeath to the five daughters and one sonn of my couzen Crowe of Bilney aforesaid the sume of five pounds apeece to be paid to them respectively within six months after my decease at the place of payment aforesaid. In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale and after the interlinations alterations and obliterations declared this for my last will and testament being contained in three sheetes of paper annexed with my seale and to every sheete have put my hand and seale this seventh? day of May in the yeare of our Lord Christ one thousand six hundred ninetie and two Robert Bransby stated subscribed published and delivered by the said Robert Bransby the testator to be his last will and testament in the presence of us Barry Lowe John Burton Ralph Cotton Thomas Osborne

My will and mind is and I further declare this as a part of my last will that William Cooke my Bayliffe of Caistor upon rendring up a just and prompt account to my executor without charge delay or trouble shall upon delivery of the goods in his possession and accounting for and paying the sume of five pounds that are or shall be then in his hand and recipt the sume of five pounds which I doe hereby give him Witness my hand and seale herein to sett th day and yeare above said Robert Bransby sealed and delivered and alsoe published as above in the presence of Barry Lowe John Burton Ralph Cotton Thomas Osborne
