Last Will and Testament

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of Daniel Pocock

In the name of God Amen this Twenty Seventh Day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty one I Daniel Pocock Sen’r of Baltimore County State of Maryland farmer. Being sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God. Therefore Calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. That is to say Principally and First of all I give and recommend my soul into the Hand of God that gave it and for my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like and decent maner at the discretion of my Executor nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless me with in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form IMPRIMIS it is my will and I do order that in the first place all my just debts and funeral Charges be paid and satisfied. ITEM I give and bequeath unto Susannah my Beloved wife my land lying on My Lady’s Manor ajoin Joseph Read and Eliaja Bosley and other containing one hundred and fifty three acres and all my other property that shall be in my poshen (possession) at my death and she may dispose of it as she may think Best. I likewise constitute make and ordain her my only and sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke abd disannull all other former Testaments Wills Legacies and Executors by me in any ways before this time named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. On the 10th day of august 1784 came Veazy Price and made Oath that he did see Testator sign and seal this Will that he heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound disposing mind memory and understanding and that he subscribed his name as a Witness at his request in his presence and in the presence of the other subscribing Witnesses Sworn before me Register of Wills for Baltimore County William Buchanan

Sir, I hereby certify that I am not able to go to administer on my husband’s Estate I being too weak and feeble and scarcely able to walk across the floor. I therefore authorize and Impower my eldest son John Pocock to administer for me. Sign’d with my seal this 31st day of July 1784. Suseane (her mark) Pocock Witness present: Robert Taylor
