The following is a transcription of the will submitted to the Gibson County, Tennessee, Court by David Thomason on 7 Sep 1871 and names his three surviving children and the heirs of two children who predeceased him. His wife, Mary, isn't named so presumably predeceased him as well.
Gibson County Court Oct Term 1871
David Thomason Will
..........I David Thomason, do this day make this my last
..........Will and Testament, here by revoking and making
..........void all former wills by me at any time made.
1st....I direct my Executor James B. Biggs to pay all of my
..........indebtedness which is proven to be just, including
..........my burial expenses.
2nd....I give & bequeath to my Daughter Martha A. Gardner
..........one fifth of all my Estate, after paying the above indebtedness.
3rd....I give & bequeath further use of my Son James Thomason
..........one fifth of my Estate, the said one fifth shall not be
..........subject or in any way liable for the payment of
..........my debts heretofore contracted by him, or shall be
..........hereafter contracted, or agree to pay after indebtedness.
4th....I give and bequeath to the heirs of Eliza White, my daughter
..........one fifth of all my Estate, after the payment of all
..........indebtedness.
5th....I give and bequeath unto the heirs of my Daughter
..........Elizabeth C. Biggs one fifth of all my Estate after
..........indebtedness.
6th....I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Nancy E. Jones
..........one fifth of all my Estate after indebtedness & said
..........one fifth, belonging & given by me to my Daughter
..........Nancy E. Jones is not liable for my debts or debts
..........heretofore contracted or may hereafter contracted
..........by her husband T. L. Jones, & further I hereby appoint
..........James B. Biggs her agent to assist her in purchasing
..........a Home Stead, or to hold her part & pay over to her
..........as she may need the same
..........and further, there shall not be any account taken
..........as charges made against any of my heirs for
..........any thing heretofore received from me by them,
..........and I hereby appoint James B. Biggs my only
..........Executor with all power of the disposal of all
..........perishable property belonging to me & to collect
..........all debts owe at my death & further the said James
..........B. Biggs is to sell all the land belonging to me on
..........one and two years credit for the best price he may
..........be able to obtain in any reasonable time, or as he
..........may think best for all the heirs, & I fully empower
..........him to the exclusion of any or all Courts of Equity or
..........Civil to sign & make even to the same for me as my Executor.
