Will of Allen Dodd (abt.1740-abt.1801)
In the Name of God Amen-- I Allen Dodd of the County of Rockingham in the State of North Carolina being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God and calling to mind that mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and tstament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul in to the hand of of (sic) almighty God that gave it, and my body to the earth to be curied in a decent Christian like manner at the descretion of my executors here after named _____ doubting but at the general resurrection _____ the same again by the power of God, and as touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form---
1st I lend to my beloved wife Mary during her natural life the tractt of land I now live on containing three hundred acres and one negroe girl named Lucy with six head of cattle such as she may chose also all my sheep and such apart of my hogs as she may choose to keep also two horse kind Blare and guilbert and one bed and furniture with fowls of all kinds with forty dollars due me by Charles Norman as will appear by a note from under his hand and seal---
2ndly I giveand bequeth to my grandchildren the children of Ancel Fields and Patty his wife two cows, hart and Mulberry with their increase now in possession of said Ancel Fields, also two feather beds and furniture in his possession also being the beds taken by execution at the _____ of Bartholomew Grogan and bought by Allen Dodd the testator
3rdly I give and gqueath to my son John twenty Shillings.
4thly I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Martin twelve pounds or a horse of that value.
5thly I give and bequeath to my daughter Polly Fields twenty--
6thly I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Norman twenty Schillings
7thly I give and bequeath to my son Nathaniel the land where on I now live after the death of my wife also one feath bed and furniture with three head of cattle with all my carpenter tooles and one pare of Iron wedges--
8thly I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharan Carter three head of cattle already received with one bed and furniture
9thly I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah one Feather bed and furniture three head of cattle and the above named negroe girl Lucy at the death of my wife.
Lastly I appoint my beloved wife Mary executrix and my son Nathaniel executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made in witness there of I have here unto Set my hand and Seal this 30th day of April -- AD 1799.
