I, _Walter J. Mitchell_, a NATIVE AND LOYAL CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, hereby apply to the Department of State, at Washington for a passport.



I solemnly swear that I was born at _Cincinnati_, in the State of _Ohio_ on or about the _16th_ day of _September_, _1853_, that my _father_ _John Mitchell_, was born in _Ireland_, and is now _Dead_ that he emigrated to the United States from a port of _England (when 2 years old)_ on or about _1814_ ; that he resided _81_ years, uninterruptedly, in the United States, from _1814_ to _1895_ at _Cincinnati, Ohio_; that he was naturalized as a citizen of the United States _under his father's papers_ and that I am domiciled in the United States, my permanent residence being at _Manchester_ in the State of _Massachusetts_, where I follow the occupation of _Retired_. I am about to go abroad temporarily; and I intend to return to the United States within _1_ month with the purpose of residing and performing the duties of citizenship therein; and I desire a passport for use in visiting the countries hereinafter named for the following purpose:
