Profiles Needs Stickers

This list contains profiles whose family needs to be checked for the African-American Sticker {{African-American Sticker}}. Often huge branches of profiles are without a sticker and we don't have time to sticker all the profiles. When you come to a stopping place, you can put the profile you stopped at on this list. Some of these profiles listed are suspected of needing the sticker, but that needs to be confirmed by looking at sources.

If you'd like to sticker these profiles, please remember to check the sources before adding the sticker. Children of people enumerated as Black will automatically get the sticker. However, we can't assume both parents or a spouse of a person will also be Black. Census records are easy places to find race enumerations, but please be careful as they were sometimes incorrect. It's best to check more than one source. If the profile doesn't have any sources, please add some. If you don't have time to add all the sources, please add this category: [[Category:US Black Heritage Project, Needs Sources]]. If those sources show that more family needs to be added from those sources, please add this category: [[Category:US Black Heritage Project, Needs Profiles Created]].

Race can get tricky, especially further back in time. Some profiles claim Native American heritage although there are no sources for this heritage and they are enumerated as Black. In some cases the Native American heritage is based on false oral history. In some cases, the person may have mixed African and Native American heritage. With mixed heritage, if there is a source for the NA heritage, the Native American sticker can be added along with the African-American sticker. If there is no proof of NA heritage claimed on the profile, please add the category [[Category:US Black Heritage Project, Needs Native American Source]]. and add the African-American sticker if they were enumerated as Black.

As soon as this person/branch has the sticker(s), please remove them from this list

Photo Permission Sample Letter

Dear <contact name>,

I'm a member of the US Black Heritage Project at the family research website, WikiTree. One of our goals is to highlight and build family trees for Black Americans who had a remarkable place in history. We saw a great photo on your website for <notable's name> <add the link to the website page with the photo here>.

We'd love to use this as the primary photo on his profile on WikiTree to enhance the profile. <add link to notable's WikiTree profile here>

Please let me know if this would be possible, and if so, the attribution citation we should add to the photo when we upload it.

Sincerely, <your name>
