Introduction
This is the workspace of the US Southern Colonies Categories Team.
Tasks
Tasks include reviewing categories for errors, page content, and proper use.
Click the [Navigate] link at the top right of any category page to see the category structure or hierarchy with links to the subcategories. On the category structure page, note the Increase level link which will increase the number of category levels displayed (3 levels are displayed by default).
For example, [Navigate] shows the category hierarchy for Category:US Southern Colonies Project .
- Category Error Review
- Periodically check all project categories for errors.
- Refer errors in location categories to the appropriate Colonial Team.
- Category Content Review
- Periodically check all project category pages and companion space pages for appropriate information. Evolution in WikiTree and project best practices and changes in markup syntax and parameters will often make a page out of date. Pages should:
- State the purpose of the category and what should be categorized under it.
- Be an appropriate length (about 1000 characters is a good medium; too few [50 or 75?] will trigger a database error).
- Include links to the project page and other pages highly relevant to visitors to the page.
- Note the date of last team review at the bottom of the page (e.g. "Last reviewed 19 Nov 2021 by the [[Space:US Southern Colonies Categories Team|Categories Team]].'').
- Periodically check all project category pages and companion space pages for appropriate information. Evolution in WikiTree and project best practices and changes in markup syntax and parameters will often make a page out of date. Pages should:
- Category Proper Use Review
- General
- Person profiles outside the scope of the project (i.e. not living in one of the 7 colonies before July 4, 1776) should have the project sticker or box removed.
- Person profiles that are not Open should beāpost a comment on the profile asking the profile be Open or the project sticker or box removed.
- Person profiles for project members should use Category:US Southern Colonies Project Members instead of Category:US Southern Colonies Project.
- Person profiles for WikiTree members who are not project members should be directed (post a comment on their profile) to the G2G welcome post for information about joining the project. Ask them to remove project categories from their profile, and consider the Template: Descendant sticker instead.
- Category:US Southern Colonies Project
- Periodically check for extraneous subcategories and pages.
- Periodically check for person profiles. This is a top-level category so there should be none other than the project account US Southern Colonies Project WikiTree.
- Person profiles should be recategorized to one or more of the Colonists and Colonies subcategories instead.
- Category:US Southern Colonists
- Periodically check for extraneous subcategories and pages.
- Periodically check for person profiles. This is a top-level category so there should be none.
- Person profiles with a project box or project sticker should have a colony parameter added.
- Person profiles that have been manually categorized to Category:US Southern Colonists should be recategorized to one or more of the Colonists subcategories instead.
- Category:US Southern Colonies
- Periodically check for extraneous subcategories and pages.
- Periodically check for person profiles. This is a top-level category so there should be none.
- Person profiles that have been manually categorized to Category:US Southern Colonies should be recategorized to one or more of the Colonies subcategories instead.

- Periodically check for extraneous subcategories and pages.
- Periodically check the person profiles.
- Person profiles in the Colony-level subcategories should be recategorized to a County-/District-level region subcategory if research permits.

- Check Privacy Tab of team pages to confirm team members are listed.

- Review project members from the badge list.

- Periodically provide content to the monthly update for the News Page.

- There are numerous project member person profiles in Category:US Southern Colonies Project that need to be recategorized to Category:US Southern Colonies Project Members.
- There were 50 on 20 Nov 2021.
- 20 of them have recently been active, and were contacted.

- The now-required colony parameter has been added to all project boxes and stickers of Open project person profiles. ~19 Nov 2021 Ken Spratlin
- 1,923 person profiles. EditBot replaced the project box with the project sticker if the profile was not project managed, and added Category:US Southern Colonies Potential temporarily while being reviewed and adding the colony parameter. Completed 8 Jun 2021.
- 4,320 person profiles. The colony parameter was added to 4,320 person profiles in Category:US Southern Colonists. Some of these were manually categoried, so they were recategorized to a colony. Completed 17 Nov 2021.
