This is the category companion page for the project's Needs Location Research maintenance category.

As stated on the category page:

Profiles in this category need to be reviewed to verify locations in the data fields and text existed at the time the person was living, are consistent with the family's known locations, and use the naming conventions of their time instead of ours.

To correct these issues, we must always ask "what was it called, when?" And we must be careful not to conflate two locations sharing the same name (e.g. Albemarle Parish vs. Albemarle County).
