Members

  • John Auborn I have lots of ancestors who came through Virginia and the Carolinas to Tennessee.
  • H Baggott - ancestor in Province of North Carolina (1712-1776) Some of my ancestors, without moving, went from being Virginians to North Carolinians once they redrew the lines. Also, writing biographies is a favorite pastime.
  • Donnie Blackstone - family in Haywood, Macon, Jackson, NC. Maternal family- Parker in Franklin, Andrews, Transylvania, and Haywood, NC and Tennessee Valley, North Carolina
  • Brenda Breland Shaffer - Almost all of my ancestors arrived in Virginia, and |will be working on sources on profiles to validate them and familial relationships.}}
  • Monica Bryce Pendleton - for Province of North Carolina (1712-1776) Team and Province of South Carolina (1712-1776) Team. My main interest is original settlers of what is now North Carolina, especially Craven, Duplin and McDowell Counties, and South Carolina, particularly the Ninety-Six District and Greenville areas. My main surnames are Brice, Walker, Anderson, West, Burchfield, Hunter, Murphy, Dobson and Smith.
  • Loretta Buckner My entire paternal side appears to date back to the earliest days of North Carolina--currently researching (aka obsessing) Quakers, and adding categories for those in the Cane Creek area. Created database, adding sources which makes it easier for me to quickly identify anyone appearing on the 1790 & 1800 Chatham county census, and have now added Quakers to it.
  • Deb McCarter Most of my paternal side were in Virginia and North Carolina pre 1776. I have particular interest in collaborating to document the Burch/Lawrence intermarriage connections.
  • C Carpenter - I am currently attempting to provide detailed review of Quaker records along with land records to provide greater clarity of the Jordan families that moved to the Georgia backcountry in 1760-70s. As the creator & editor of the WilsonFamilyTreeAlbumBlog, I have helped fill in detailed documented the Posey & related families to arrival in Virginia (about 1628) and Maryland (by 1640); along with detailed work on Leavens, Crews, Miller, Sing, Webb, Burns, Buffel, Brownlee, Crockford, de Wees, Sowder, Henckel, & Shepard families. Hoping to continue to share information as well as providing clear picture with additional documentation to several family lines.
  • Jim Christian- My Virginia decendents are from Christian's Creek, Aguata, VA. Gilbert Robert Christian (about 1677-1756) buried in Christian's Creek. I am also a member of the Quaker Project and am related to Samuel Smith (158-1839) born in Reidsville, Rockingham, NC.
  • Billie Davis - I'm looking to connect Newtons and actually anyone that's related. Only thing is in new to this and not good at adding sources.
  • Teresa Davis - about Teresa
  • Laura DeSpain All of my ances[[tors were from the Southern Colonies. Most of us are still in the South Eastern US. Most of my maternal line is still in South Carolina and has been since before the 1700s.
  • Jason Lee Edwards All of my ancestors were in the colonies before 1776, and I have done extensive research on most branches. I am particularly interested in the families from western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina who populated North Georgia following the Cherokee Removal.
  • Melissa Dunn Miller - family from North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia.
  • Debbie Vance ancestors in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina
  • Alex Green- traced my g-grandpa back from his homestead in Cocke County, TN, to Haywood County, NC, the Jersey Settlement in NC, to the William Green House in Ewing, NJ and beyond.
  • Amy Blythe- I have heavy mid-colonial NC roots on my paternal side: Hargis, Duke, House, Greene, Dent, Wasson/Wausom, Douglass, Layton, Logan & Sullivan. Main counties of interest are Person, Warren, Granville, Orange, & Franklin. I am the lead researcher for the IOW VA Dukes (or ftDNA group 2) in the GEDmatch Duke/Dukes DNA Study. Across all Duke groups, we have recently begun to request profile protection on the earliest progenitors.
  • Michael J Hatfield-My ancestry runs from Pennsylvania to Tennessee either directly, via North Carolina, or via Virginia. Also Delaware to North Carolina to Tennessee and Virginia to Tennessee either directly or via North Carolina. Several are pre-1700 and many direct ancestors & siblings are Revolutionary War veterans.
  • Dianne Farquharson my family seems to. have lived among the same group of people for the pasted 300 years. I want to understand the dynamics that influenced marriages and family bonding. Just following this migration through the Carolinas is a start. Need help with my problematic family in the late 1700’s.
  • David Fentress Adding profiles of North Carolina ancestors with stickers.
  • Christine Gephart - teams Colony of Virginia, Carolina team, and Province of North Carolina. I’m willing to help in anyway with these projects
  • Margaret Kerns - Many families in VA, NC and MD during colonial period; several are pre-1700. I hope to help with the North Carolina Team. Plans to add sources to Gedcom and stickers.

Counties of residence included Wilkes and Washington District (now N.E. Tennessee), Orange, Granville and Edgecombe and their various daughter counties.
  • Melissa Reed ancestors have been scattered throughout the southern colonies since 1600s. Most ended up settling in South Carolina and Georgia
  • Becky Simmons - About Becky-
  • L Sauls-I have been trying to sort out the family of James Younger, who was born in Virginia then moved to North Carolina. Also, my Sauls ancestors seem to have originated in North Carolina before migrating to Georgia & parts west.
  • Lynn Sexton
  • Pip Sheppard - focusing on early settlers in the Catawba River Valley, more specially those families in eastern Lincoln and Gaston Counties, and western Mecklenburg County. Most were German and Ulster-Scots. This will be all of my maternal heritage, steeped in me by my grandparents. Surnames: Clubb, Neal, Beaty, Fite, Wells, Moore, Lawing, Berryhill, Todd, and others, including all related families, and even those not related.
  • Betty Skelton Norman - will work on what is needed. Many of my ancestors settled in South Carolina upstate -- what was once District Ninety Six. What is most remarkable about them is not the fame they achieved, but that their progeny endured, still in the Carolina Piedmont, even through the antebellum period. Their surnames are Skelton, Banister, Moore, Todd, Hembree, Brock, Holcombe, Braswell. Quality Assurance-Analysis of Province of Carolina profiles for dead links

Hello, everyone. My father's side of the family is southern. I have found people in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama. Right now, I am working in North Carolina. I believe I am related to the Palentate settlement in New Bern. Specific names I am researching are Green, George, and Jones. In researching those, I am finding Teachey, and Horton. I love going down the rabbit hole, so I end up with lots of names that are "extra." I have had my DNA tested and have a GEDCOM available.

Mary - I have a question. As I am combing through wills to find relatives, may I enter them even if I cannot connect them to someone already on the tree (yet)?
Hi Denise,

We strive to connect. But many profiles are not connected - yet. I believe that is the goal for this new year for more connections..

You may add the profiles.. You may find the connections later.

--Good questions!!---

Happy new year

Mary

North Carolina team, could you please look at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Baker-2191#comment

It's very rare (but not impossible) for a New England-born person to end up in the South. I posted a query about this some time ago, but it was never addressed. Would live someone(s) experienced in colonial North Carolina records to take a look and conform or disprove that this early North Carolina settler did indeed originate in New England. Thanks so much.
