US Southern Colonies Project Stickers
Please note that if you are adding a sticker to a profile other than your own, WikiTree guidelines call for no more than 5 stickers and note that 3 is better (see Help:Stickers). Descendant stickers are primarily intended for use on the profiles of active WikiTree members, but can be placed on any profile to show a link to ancestors.
Note: Information about the project box for the US Southern Colonies Project can be found on the US Southern Colonist template page.
Southern Colonist Stickers
Template:US Southern Colonist Sticker for profiles of Southern colonists not managed by the project. Adding a colony, to make it a colony-specific sticker, is required.
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Virginia}}
The sticker can be used to add project maintenance categories using the needs parameter, just as it is with the project box (which also requires a colony to be added). For example:
{{US Southern Colonist|Virginia|needs=Sources}} << project box
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Virginia|needs=Sources}} << sticker
- ... ... ... was a Carolina colonist.
The colony-specific stickers, such as the Virginia and Carolina sticker, can be added to profiles of Southern colonists whether or not they are managed by the project. To create a colony-specific sticker, add the colony to the project sticker:
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Carolina}} (to 1712)
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Georgia}}
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Maryland}}
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|North Carolina}} (1712-1776)
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|South Carolina}} (1712-1776)
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Virginia}} (generally, 1625-1776)
{{US Southern Colonist Sticker|Jamestown}} (1606-1625)
- See also: Notes on Timeframes.
- To see the stickers displayed, click here.
The sticker adds the corresponding colony's Colonists category; without the colony parameter, it adds the category US Southern Colonists (as does the project box). It will also add project maintenance categories based on the needs parameter.
See the template page for details.
Descendant Sticker
Template:Descendant for descendants of a Southern colonist (example uses the project account, WikiTree-24). Descendant stickers are primarily intended for use on the profiles of active WikiTree members, but can be placed on any profile to show a link to ancestors (considering WikiTree guidelines and provided other profile managers do not object).
{{Descendant|id=[[WikiTree-ID|Name of the Southern Colonist]]}}
The sticker does not add a category.
Jamestown Stickers
See Stickers for Jamestown Colony.

Other Stickers
Following are stickers that may also be appropriate for use on a profile of a Southern colonist, but which are not US Southern Colonies Project-managed stickers. (All stickers can be found through the Stickers category.)
Southern Pioneers
A related project, Southern Pioneers Project also has stickers, for project members and for the pioneer ancestor's profile. (See this section of the project page.)
Location Stickers
Migrating Ancestor Sticker
Template:Migrating Ancestor has links to help you find flags (in addition to the ones shown above). The sticker displays origin and destination flags. Text is preset (see the template page for details). The example uses the Cross of St George for origin in England and Virginia's flag for destination.
{{Migrating Ancestor
| origin = England
| destination = Virginia
| origin-flag = Flags-8.jpg
| destination-flag = US_State_Flag_Images-49.png
}}
The sticker does not add a category.
Nonmigrating Ancestor Sticker
Template:Nonmigrating Ancestor has additional information and examples. See above for help finding images.
{{Nonmigrating Ancestor
|addinfo={{Name}} was born in the Province of South Carolina.
|flag= US_Southern_Colonies_British_South_Carolina.jpg
|tooltip=Logo for colonial South Carolina
}}
You can use this sticker even for migrating ancestors. For example, if you want just one flag or more flexibility with the sticker's text.
{{Nonmigrating Ancestor
|addinfo={{Name}} left Georgia to settle in Mississippi in 1801.
|flag= US_Flags-3.png
|tooltip=USA's flag at the time
}}
The sticker does not add a category.
Maryland
Template:Maryland Sticker for profiles of Marylanders (see details and other options on the template page). The Flag of Maryland "consists of the 17th-century heraldic banner with the colors and shield from the coat of arms of the Calvert-Crossland families of Sir George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore (1579–1632)." ~ Wikipedia
{{Maryland Sticker|an early settler in Maryland}}
It does not add a category.
South Carolina
Template:South Carolina Sticker for profiles of South Carolinians (see details and other options on the template page). South Carolina's flag has remained much the same "since 1775, being based on one of the first Revolutionary War flags." ~ Wikipedia
{{South Carolina Sticker|a settler in colonial South Carolina}}
It does not add a category.
Virginia
Template:Virginia Sticker for profiles of Virginians (see details and other options on the template page). The Flag of Virginia shows the Great Seal of Virginia on a blue field. The Great Seal was adopted in 1776.
{{Virginia Sticker|fulltext=Native Virginian}}
It does not add a category.
Some Images for Migrating Ancestor Stickers
Wikipedia lists flags for the colonies as being the Colonial Red Ensign from 1707 to the Revolution. The flags for 1606-1707 are shown as the Union Jack and the Scottish Union Jack, or the flag of England (the Cross of Saint George). See also WikiTree's pages for Flags of Colonial America (which includes some flags used during the Revolution), USA Flags (1775-present), US State Flag Images, and North American Flag Images. For countries other than England, see Template:Country Flag/Space:Country Flags and links provided on the template page for the Migrating Ancestor sticker, including Space:Flags.

Which profile are you looking at? It may be a different template that is adding the Province of Maryland category.
Yes, I need to do what I thought in the email and review each of the Colony category pages.
The Project Box and the Project Sticker use the colony parameter to categorize the Colonist into one of the Colonists categories like Category: Maryland Colonists. The comment on the Maryland category page is then referring to separately categorizing a profile into a colony, county or lower "location" category that starts at for example Category: Province of Maryland.
Colonists are the profiles associated with the Project. Locations are the places they lived.
I will review and see which pages need to be revised to make this clear.
