Welcome
This group is intended for WikiTreers who are Ulmers by adoption or natural descent, as well as any other persons researching Ulmers.
Please post questions to G2G and tag it =Ulmer= or contact Frances Ulmer via private message.
Mission
To unravel the Ulmers who migrated to North America and discover their ancestral roots and to dispel or prove all the legends and stories handed down through the centuries.
Goals
1. To find and properly cite sources for all unsourced profiles. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources
2. To increase the number of Ulmer profiles on Wikitree
3. To connect as many family branches to each other as possible, and to connect all branches to the One Family Tree of WikiTree.
Challenge
I'm new to the One Name Study projects, but when I researched sources for Ulmer, I found 8,066 Ulmer entries on www.findagrave.com. It seems to me if we can start putting those Ulmer profiles on Wikitree, we'd have a pretty good start! As of today (12/24/2022) there are only 773 Ulmer profiles on Wikitree, so there is plenty of work to be done!
As you enter the profiles on Wikitree, please remember that findagrave is not always reliable because the data is user-entered. Please do your best to add sources that substantiate the data that you are entering, especially relationships. If you aren't able to verify a relationship with another source, enter the relative as an individual and add a research note to say that findagrave believes that the person is a child or spouse or sibling of the other person (include their wiki ID). If you are new to Wikitree, be sure to learn about the Sourcer browser extension!
Please suggest ideas to extend this project!
About the Project
The Ulmer Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Ulmer name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Ulmer name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Ulmer's), by time period (18th Century Ulmer's), or by topic (Ulmer DNA, Ulmer Occupations, Ulmer Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches that have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
