Unicoi County History
Unicoi County was established on March 23, 1875, from parts of Carter and Washington counties. It's name is from a Cherokee word meaning "fog-draped" or "hazy."

Unicoi County is part of East Tennessee, one of Tennessee's Three Grand Divisions. These divisions are not only geographic, but also cultural and defined in state law. Unicoi County is also part of the South Central Region of Appalachia.
