OVERVIEW

The United States Census - State of Texas is the home page for the Texas census transcription project. The desired goal is to:

1) Create a free space page for each county listing the censuses in which the county participated.

2) Create a free space page for each county/census page for each county/census event (i.e., Anderson County - 1850 census).

3) Create a free space page for each census image for a county. This FSP will contain an image of the census page.

4) Transcribe the census image.

5) Link each FSP with the equivalent category page

6) Link to or create profile for each person listed on the image.

7) Link profiles to their census image

BACKGROUND

The first United States census that Texas participated in was the 1850 Federal census. There were approximately 78 counties in Texas that year.

The census years that will be involved will be 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890 (only a few counties still exist), 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940. We will also include the 1890 Veterans Schedule.

VOLUNTEER

Texas is the second largest state (both size and population) in the United States. Needless to say, this is a huge project.
