Location: Missouri, United States
Surname/tag: spillman
A few years ago I was gifted a treasure trove of unidentified Spillman photographs. Fortunately, the collection included one attested photo of Charles Wesley Spillman (1823-1908) and one identified photo of Charles's known son, Thomas Newton Spillman (profile to come), along with Thomas's funeral card. Other photos in the batch were later matched to reliably identified family photos received from my uncle, so I am certain of the connection to my Kentucky/Missouri Spillman ancestors. It is entirely possible that the remaining unidentified photos are Thomas's extended family and in-laws. The person who sent these photos to me found them in a thrift shop and kindly went to the trouble of poking around online to find someone who might want custody. (Post your websites, folks. You never know what they might bring!)
I would love to identify these individuals, and would cheerfully send originals from my collateral lines to an interested descendant. (I'm greedy enough to want to keep the originals of my ancestors. heh)
It should go without saying that all dates here are highly speculative, and should be treated with appropriate skepticism. I have explained my reasoning behind all assumptions, but hairstyles and fashions are loose guides at best (especially in rural locations), information on 19th century photographers is often inaccurate or incomplete, and age guestimates are in the eye of the beholder. Still, I've done my best, and welcome any corrections, suggestions, and most of all identifications. Please provide the best possible evidence of identifications; it may be the evidence that helps someone else scale a brick wall.
Note on 26 March 2022: In the next few days I will add profile pages for the family members who have been reliably identified from this batch (photos not uploaded here), in hopes of making the identification process easier.
