Van Buren County History

Van Buren County was formed in 1840, from parts of Bledsoe, Warren, and White counties. It was named for President Martin Van Buren.

Van Buren County is part of Middle Tennessee, one of Tennessee's Three Grand Divisions. These divisions are not only geographic, but also cultural and defined in state law. Van Buren County is also part of the South Central Region of Appalachia.
