The William Thomas Dowden family was brought up in Nederland, Jefferson, Texas, where [Dowden-596 | William Thomas Dowden, Sr.] raised a backyard garden of beans, tomatoes, and watermellons to augment his paycheck from the Pure Oil Refinery. After "Dad" retired, to Polk County, Texas, he continued this tradition on his land near Segno, Polk County, Texas. HIs son, [Dowden-595 | William Thomas Dowden, Jr.], continued the tradition more to provide the opportunity for growing oriental vegetables introduced by his wife, Lan.
