The goal of this sub-project/free space page is to recognize the 566 Marines, Corpsmen and Chaplin who were Killed in Action or died during the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division's service in Vietnam.
While these Marines represent slightly less than 1% of the total listed on the National Vietnam Memorial (58,142) they will be a start. You chew an elephant up one bite at a time!
I will create profiles for those men who do not have a profile and I will add the following to the profiles that already exist:

As of 4 July 2024 I have completed the addition of 546 profiles and updated 20 existing profiles for the 566 Marines and Navy Corpsmen who served with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment and did not survive their service in Vietnam. The Medals/Awards, Biographical and Military Service are all confirmed by Unit Diary entry, Official Report of Casualty, Service Record Book and FindAGrave. There are at least four sources for each profile. For additions, corrections or any new information, please email me via my profile, Floyd-1923. An alphabetical listing of the names will be entered on this page shortly.
There are 2 Medal of Honor, 12 Navy Cross, 30 Silver Star, 16 Bronze Star and of course Purple Heart recipients. It was an Honor to serve with these men and a labor of Respect for their ultimate service to complete this work and my tribute and to have it completed on the 4th of July. Once a Marine, Always a Marine! Semper Fidelis

87 new Wikitree profiles created and 3 existing profiles updated. Profiles are being created in order of death for this unit: First death 21 Aug 1965 Most current entry for 1 May 1966 Last known death 27 Aug 1970
I will complete the Free Space Page for the project with outline, objective/goals, progress updates and ideas for future work to continue connections to the tree. As you know, this is a personal project for me as this is the unit I served with in Viet Nam. As the project matures, I will seek additional help from Wikitree members to provide connections and possibly add the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Regiment. I currently expect to have the 566 profiles created by June of this year.
A table of profile names in alphabetical order with the ID number and DoB and DoD is forth coming.
As of 15 March 2024: 158 new Wikitree profiles created and 6 existing profiles updated. Profiles include deaths from 21 Aug 1965 through 15 Jan 1968. They include: 1 Medal of Honor 8 Silver Star 2 Bronze Star w Combat V
