Quick Reference
For links and information about Virginia sources, see Team Virginia (specifically, the Sources section). This Quick Reference page is intended to be a place to "park" citations for copy/paste use during the Source-a-Thon.
- ~ Liz Shifflett, Virginia Project leader, Team Virginia co-captain
When working with a particular reference, I open a window in my computer with the citation, letting me copy/paste as needed. I figured that the source-a-thon would be a great opportunity to encourage folks to use that method but to post their citation in WikiTree instead of just on their computer, creating an easy reference during the Source-a-Thon and a great resource for after.
The Team Virginia page has a section on "What if I can't find a source?" I included for copy/paste the "go-by" that I use for posting results from "Research" (the dropdown link under the WikiTree ID in the mini-menu at upper right on a profile page). It's under Research Notes (below)
I also have high hopes for LOTS of source citations, so I started with a couple I plan to use under a heading of my WikiTree ID (which will let me find what I'm using easily).
Hope you find this page useful!

* FamilySearch yielded x returns from historical records, but were not relevant to her; 2 returns from submitted trees but neither had sources ([[Your WikiTree ID]], October x, 2016).
* Find a Grave search returned no results ([[Your WikiTree ID]], October x, 2016).
* Ancestry search returned nothing of interest that was not behind a pay wall. See [URL this link] for results of search run October x, 2016 ([[Your WikiTree ID]]).
* Top two returns for [URL MyHeritage] search were for WikiTree profiles. I did not pursue others. ([[Your WikiTree ID]], October x, 2016)
* First page of [URL Find My Past] results had nothing in right century. I did not go beyond first page. ([[Your WikiTree ID]], October x, 2016)
* Google search had lots of interesting returns, including these from just the first two pages:

If anyone wants to take up that challenge, I'll be happy to turn over leadership to you! If you were on Team Virginia for the Spring Clean-a-Thon, you just got a similar message.
I think the intent is to combine the Clean-a-Thon & Source-a-Thon teams, so maybe we could rotate leadership and focus - even months could focus on Sources & odd months could focus on db errors.
If we had enough interest from the two teams, I could set up a third page where we could coordinate a combined Clean-a-Source-a-Thon Team Virginia that had a different leadership every month (if we had enough interest).
Cheers, Liz
P.S. I won't be available that weekend, but that doesn't mean there can't be a Team Virginia!

When it's midnight where you are, start sourcing :D ... iffn you want to, that is. Whether you do or don't, I have a favor. I'll be offline most of Saturday. Could you visit the Sprint and post some encouraging comments for anyone sourcing? Especially if you see Mel Lambert - our Team VA member who works on West Virginia unsourced profiles. She did so good last week, she won the Sprint!
And if you do & work on Virginia Unsourced Profiles, let me know or post something in your answer there so I know to add Team VA when I add you to the tracking table (at Saturday_Sourcing_Sprints).
Cheers, Liz
I can't do every Saturday, but if Team Virginia wanted to commit to a "Second Saturday Sourcing Sextathalon"... I'd be on board for that (sexta for 6). We could have four 6-hour "ET" (Eastern time) sessions & you pick which session based on what works best for you. Logistics can be worked out, but I think a "signup sheet" on this page would work & then I'll figure out how the captains of each 6-hour session can coordinate with the Saturday Sourcing folks.
Let me know if you think that's something y'all would like to do & I'll set up a sign up sheet for Dec. 10, invite members of the Virginia Google Group to join us, & check on coordinating it.

For other Virginia Counties with space pages, see the table (here) & click on any of the county names that are clickable - those are the links to space pages. The Colony/VA/WV links are to the category pages.
