The voyage of the Charles Kerr to South Australia in 1840
The barque Charles Kerr sailed from England to the South Australia Colony in 1840. It left Gravesend on 5 March and arrived at Port Adelaide on 16 June 1840. at [1]
The Charles Kerr a 463 ton barque under Captain Harford Arnold and Arthur Skelton, Esq., surgeon-superintendent, carried 216 Commissioner's Emigrants (assisted passengers) to the fledgling colony.

vessel has excellent accommodation for

Wednesday, June 17.—The barque Charles Kerr, 453 tons, Harford Arnold, Commander from London and Gravesend, having left the latter place on the 6th March. Passengers:— Mrs Longley, Mr Richard Longley, Mr A. M. Laine, Mr. H. Snelling, Mr Alexander Grant, two Masters Longley, and fifty-seven male and fifty-five female adult emigrants ninety-two children.

There were ten deaths on board the Charles Kerr during the passage, and three births. The deaths were all among the children, except two, one a young man of nineteen, a seaman; and the other a young woman of eighteen.
