Cardiganshire County (Historic)
(Welsh: Sir Aberteifi) is one of the thirteen historic counties in Mid Wales now known as Ceredigion County. In 1282 Edward I of England conquered the principality of Wales and divided it into counties one of which was Cardiganshire.
Dyfed Until 1996
Under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1974 effective April 1, 1974 Cardiganshire was abolished and the county became included in the county of Dyfed.
Ceredigion
Under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1972 effective April 1, 1996 the county of became known as Ceredigion.
